There are many opinions with justifications that it’s or not.

I personally think it depends on where person is and where he wants to be. If you’re freshly baked Master of Science with several years of business practice then it’s not likely that you’ll be able to absorb MBA value. If you are management guru with 20 years of experience and want to expand your view it could be right choice.

But anyway, I’m not the best to answer this question. As for myself, there is still a lot of grass to mow on road to MBA, so I’ll keep working.

Imitating work

What is biggest limitation for today’s corporations? Resources? Technology? Market? Time? Don’t think so as even if corporations have it they are not able to operate at 100% capacity.

I would put my bet on operational efficiency. Even with best resources, newest technology, rich market and all required time you can’t deliver if all you do is imitating work. Yes, lots of bureaucracy, forwarding and other air mixing activities fit into this definition.

Lean it and keep reducing everything what imitates work.

Resourcefulness

What competence is most crucial for today’s leader? Networking? Yes, it opens lots of doors. Communication? Definitely, it won’t be possible to interact without it. Negotiation? Influencing? Emotional intelligence?

What about resourcefulness? No, we can delegate, we don’t need that. I’m not against delegating, vice versa, doing it professionally rises efficiency to next level. But isn’t resourcefulness one of characteristic which makes you able to do it.

I would put resourcefulness to top priority and would work on improving it in all live areas.

A player

Recently I read a book “Topgrading” who added me thoughts on career development and some new goals. It’s really interesting how A player should perform and how organizations can influence that people are A players in their positions (for example by not promoting top engineer to managerial position if he would be just mediocre there). At the same time even if you have a potential to be A player manager, but organization is driven by B players it’s tough to get there you could deliver biggest value.

I would recommend this book for everyone who are interested in developing themselves, it might open your eyes and change the way you think.
